Practicing with Safety and Confidence

CPEP’s Assessment and Reentry to Clinical Practice programs have worked with more than 2,000 physicians and others over 30 years. These programs give professionals the opportunity to:

  1. Demonstrate clinical competence, or
  2. Address areas of knowledge, skills, or judgment where improvements may be recommended

While CPEP’s intensive educational courses are appropriate for a broad range of clinicians, our assessment and reentry programs are specifically designed to meet the specific needs of the following groups of clinicians: M.D.’s and D.O.’s, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, and Podiatrists.

CPEP’s assessment program works with clinicians whose clinical skills, knowledge, and judgment have been called into question.

Our objective, comprehensive assessments give clinicians the opportunity to either demonstrate competence or to identify specific areas of improvement in their practice.

Most participants are referred by a regulatory or credentialing authority, while others are referred by their attorneys or contact us on their own.

For clinicians who have been voluntarily out of practice for less than ten years, CPEP’s Streamlined Reentry Program combines two main components:

  1. A serious evaluation of skills that fulfills licensing and credentialing requirements for a demonstration of competence
  2. A practical education/re-entry plan that helps clinicians polish their clinical skills and provides guidance on how to navigate the reentry process with confidence

Many clinicians step away from daily patient care for completely voluntary reasons, such as raising a young family or exploring other career options.  These clinicians often need to demonstrate clinical competence to licensing or credentialing authorities and may need help brushing up on their skills.

For these clinicians who have been away from clinical care for 10 years or more, CPEP’s Enhanced Reentry Program is here to help.

CPEP has developed alternative pathways to ABMS board re-eligibility that have been approved by the American Boards of Emergency and Family Medicine as well as the American Board of Pediatrics. These programs are designed to assist physicians whose board eligibility has lapsed or expired.

Most Skills/Competence Assessments Conducted Remotely

In-Person Assessments in our Denver Office can be Accommodated Upon Request

CPEP’s Competence Assessments, Reentry Evaluations, Screens and Re-eligibility Evaluations are being conducted remotely through CPEP LIVETM, combining videoconference and other interactive technologies.  All CPEP Assessments are customized to the specific needs of each participant. Some Assessments require the use of technical simulations that test procedural skills. These activities are required to be conducted in-person.

If a participant or referring organization has a strong desire for an in-person assessment, they are asked to submit that request in writing and CPEP staff will review the request.
